The iPhone Dev-Team has announced a baseband downgrade from the iPad’s 06.15 baseband on the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G.

Typically you’d have the 06.15 baseband if you unlock with ultrasn0w but updated your iPhone baseband past 05.13.04. With this new capability, you can now downgrade specifically from 06.15 to 05.13.04 (even if you never had 05.13.04 on that device before). This gives you the best of both worlds: ultrasn0w compatibility and a normal iPhone baseband with full GPS and the ability to use stock IPSWs again.

Steps:
1. Use the “Extras->Select IPSW” button in redsn0w to tell it which firmware version you have installed (new-bootrom 3GS users can usually skip this step but it doesn’t hurt for them to do it too).
2. Do a controlled shutdown of your iPhone (“slide to power off”). This step is very important to avoid mount problems when the ramdisk is running!
3. Go back to the first screen and click “Jailbreak”. Enable the “Downgrade from iPad baseband” checkbox, disable Cydia if you already have it installed, and click Next proceed through the normal DFU ramdisk steps.

Note: The “Flashing Baseband” step TAKES A VERY LONG TIME to complete (3-8 minutes).

For those who are wondering if you can update your 3G or 3GS to 06.15 solely for the purposes of downgrading to 05.13.04, the answer is “yes” for 3G owners, and “maybe” for 3GS owners. The iPad baseband is not compatible with 3GS units manufactured week 34 of 2011 or later. If you have an iPhone3GS and if digits 3-5 of its Serial Number are 134 or later (xx134…), then you should NOT try to install the 06.15 baseband on your 3GS! It will brick your radio, preventing both the downgrade from working and normal iPhone software from using it as a phone! Be warned!

MuscleNerd has announced that an upcoming version of RedSn0w will support restoring and allow for downgrade of the iPhone 4S and iPad 2/3 for those with SHSH Blobs saved.

Upcoming redsn0w supports restoring, including iPad2/3 and 4S downgrades (with blobs) http://twitpic.com/9ixsqv ..also stitches on the fly 🙂

As we noted earlier, this downgrade technique differs from the one discovered by iH8Sn0w. It does not use any Apple copyrighted code.

This will allow those with their SHSH Blobs saved to downgrade to iOS 5.0.1 for an untethered jailbreak.

You can follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS to be notified of release.

MuscleNerd has revealed that there is an unreleased technique which can downgrade A5 devices on iOS 5.1 and iOS 5.1.1 to iOS 5.0.1 for an untethered jailbreak.

5.1.1 shows Apple knows about an unreleased technique to downgrade A5 devices to 5.0.1 with saved blobs (but left it alone..hmm)

It’s unclear why Apple would leave this technique alone. Maybe it wasn’t worth fixing because it hadn’t been made available.

Notably, this technique is different from the one found by iH8Sn0w in that it does not use copyrighted Apple code.

Unfortunately, we don’t know when or if this technique will become public.

You can follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS to be notified of any updates.

We are well-aware of how very many of you, our faithful fans, have been waiting for months for this announcement, so – with no further ado, we are excited to unveil the newest addition to our GreenPois0n toolkit

Untethered Jailbreak for iPhone 4S & iPad 2 !

This release should come as no surprise to those of you who have been following pod2g’s iOS blogfor the past few months. Earlier this week, you might have even wet your pants a little when you watched the video demonstration of today’s release (named Absinthe A5) and first witnessed our jailbreak working its magic to liberate both the iPhone 4S & iPad 2.
What you may not fully realize yet is just how hard the exploits in this Apple A5 jailbreak are working behind the scenes – and, though I mentioned it last week on my Twitter – what a glorious hacker’s wet dream the Absinthe A5 toolkit has ultimately evolved into!

Hacking the A5: Not Exactly a Walk in the Park

The ridiculously complex combination of exploits-within-exploits that make this iOS jailbreak possible have consumed thousands of hours of brain-power & effort from a legion of world-renowned hackers, several of whom have been working diligently on this project since the dual-core A5 processor was unveiled by Apple last March. Ten months ago, I myself was live tweetingfrom a tediously long line at the nearest Apple retail store, where I anxiously waited to become one of the world’s first owners (& hackers) of the newly-released iPad 2.
At that point, I don’t know if any iOS hacker anticipated how much the A5 chip would completely change the game & up the stakes. The endless war we fight to jailbreak has become more & more difficult with each new device released, and our recent battle against A5 only proved this further. After working for months with few tangible results, Chronic Dev hackers tried a new approach – we launched CDevReporter to accumulate all your devices’ crash reports, an invaluable source of information for iOS hacking & research. You answered our call-to-arms quickly & emphatically, sending us more than 10 million of these reports in less than a week. (Keep up the good work!)
Meanwhile, the iPhone 4S was released with resounding success – more than four million deviceswere sold in the first weekend alone. As a result, demand for an untethered A5 jailbreak grew exponentially overnight, and a mob-like mentality was adopted by many of the (usually courteous) Apple fan-kids. Suddenly, every iOS hacker found himself the target of constant clamoring – on Twitter, in our (& other) blog’s comments, in forums & tech news blurbs. Their message was loud & clear: “We want our new iPhones jailbroken, & we want it NOW!”

Introducing the 2012 iOS Hacking “Dream Team

We finally admitted that the escalated obstacles presented by Apple’s new A5 processor would not likely be overcome by one individual or team – but all together, we should be more than able to conquer any challenges encountered. As such, a diverse group of iOS hackers all decided to set aside our personal goals & egos, relax our die-hard team loyalties, and pool our respective skill-sets, talents & exploits to form an iOS Super-Hacking “Dream Team.”
Numerous prominent iOS hackers contributed time & expertise to the project through their troubleshooting, brilliant obstacle-clearing ideas & other support. We’d like to extend special thanks to saurik & MuscleNerd, both core members of iPhone Dev Team.
Of the 4 hackers who deserve extra recognition & gratitude for completing the lion’s share of the research, development & programming of this jailbreak, 3 are members of Chronic Dev Team: myself (posixninja), pod2g & nikias. The fourth & most legendary member of our “Dream Team” is planetbeing, the globally-admired iOS hacker/developer responsible for initially porting both Linux & Android to the iPhone (among his many other contributions).
As to the amazingly innovative fusion of exploits used in this iOS jailbreak – we plan to save most of that discussion for a panel/presentation we hope to give at a conference later this year. If you want to learn more now, pod2g wrote an excellent blog post after the release of Corona, in which he describes in detail the userland & kernel exploits we used, both for the A4 iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak and as a starting point for this Absinthe A5 toolkit.

Pod2g has announced that he’s successfully performed an untethered jailbreak on an iPhone 4 running iOS 5.0.1.
Got an untethered iPhone 4 running iOS 5.0.1. Feel free to update.
Of course, if you want to SIM unlock, don’t update using Apple’s original FW nor update OTA.
This is great news! We strongly recommend that everyone use TinyUmbrella to save their iOS 5.0.1 SHSH Blobs.
And we guess this also can work on iPad 1st generation running iOS 5.0.1, Still no more information about iPhone 4S and iPad 2 Untethered jailbreak, Stay tuned with us, If we know, then you will know.

Ultrasn0w 1.2.5 will be released by the next Monday, you will be able to use ultrasn0w 1.2.5 after jailbreaking your iPhone 4, 3GS via custom firmware using Redsn0w 0.9.9 b9b. Listen up, fanboys and everyone who is looking for jailbreak, because this is one you won’t want to miss. The iPhone 4S has been officially jailbroken.
Despite the fact that the latest chipset used in iPad 2 and iPhone 4S (A5) haven’t been exploited so it takes a lot of time for the iOS jailbreaking community to come with a jailbreak for a new iOS device.
The legendary iPhone Dev-Team found a way to get Cydia running on both the iPhone 4S and finally on the iPad 2, though the jailbreak is “VERY preliminary.” As jailbreak author states, there are still big pieces missing and plenty of work left to do,

so unfortunately the jailbreak won’t be released to the public just yet.
